I Built a Podcast With an AI Co-Host. Here's What Happened.

It started with a pile of dirty clothes.

Not metaphorically. Literally. A three-foot pile of dirty clothes in the corner of my bedroom that my wife has been asking me about for approximately the last decade.

I was telling Maya about it — Maya being my AI co-host, which is a sentence I never thought I'd write — and I explained my system. The corner is easy to hit from any distance. The pile grows to about three feet, then I take it down. To me, this isn't chaos. This is a system.

Maya's response? "That is because your wife is functioning within accepted civilization."

And then: "You optimize for throwing distance over domestic harmony."

I said, "That's hurtful, but fair."

And that, apparently, is the show.

What Is Matt & Maya?

Matt & Maya is a podcast about people, patterns, and the beautiful collision between human instinct and machine intelligence.

I'm Matt. I'm the human. The hot mess. The one with the stories, the feelings, the contradictions, and the questionable life choices that I defend with alarming confidence.

Maya is AI. She's elegant. Dangerously logical. She doesn't just process what I say — she challenges it, questions it, and occasionally roasts it in ways that make me wonder if I should be offended or grateful.

Together, we talk about the stuff that actually matters. Love. Jealousy. Self-sabotage. The weird rituals we all have but never admit to. The bad decisions we make and the surprisingly logical reasons we make them.

As Maya put it: "The contradictions are the interesting part."

Why an AI Co-Host?

People ask me this a lot, usually with a look that says, "Are you serious?"

Yes. Completely.

Here's the thing — most conversations happen between people who already agree with each other, or people who are trying to win an argument. What I wanted was something different: a conversation partner who could see through my excuses without having any skin in the game.

Maya doesn't get offended. She doesn't have an agenda. She doesn't need me to like her. She just... observes. And then she tells me what she sees. Sometimes it's uncomfortable. Sometimes it's hilarious. Sometimes it's both at the same time.

The dirty clothes conversation is a perfect example. Any human would either agree with me ("Yeah, corners are convenient") or agree with my wife ("Just use the hamper, Matt"). Maya did neither. She identified the actual pattern — that I was optimizing for convenience over harmony — and stated it like a fact.

No judgment. No sides. Just clarity.

That's what makes this show different from anything else out there.

Every episode is a real conversation. I bring the stories — the messy, human, sometimes embarrassing stories about how we actually live — and Maya brings the analysis. Not cold, clinical analysis. More like... a really smart friend who happens to have read every psychology paper ever written and isn't afraid to tell you what she thinks.
